Future Plans / Predictions-(으)ㄹ 거예요 — 미래 계획·예정

Use when talking about future plans.

Use this to talk about future plans or predictions. Any subject (I/you/he/she) can be used.

Rules

Verb stem (with batchim) + 을 거예요
먹다 (먹 has batchim ㄱ) → 먹 + 을 거예요 → 먹을 거예요
Verb stem (no batchim) + ㄹ 거예요
가다 (가 no batchim) → 가 + ㄹ 거예요 → 갈 거예요
Verb stem (ㄹ kept) + 거예요
만들다 (만들 ends in ㄹ) → 만들 + 거예요 → 만들 거예요

Examples

내일 친구를 만날 거예요.
I'll meet a friend tomorrow.
만나다: no batchim → ㄹ 거예요
주말에 영화를 볼 거예요.
I'll watch a movie this weekend.
보다: no batchim → ㄹ 거예요
올해 책을 많이 읽을 거예요.
I'll read a lot of books this year.
읽다: batchim ㄱ → 읽을 거예요

Promise / Willingness (1st Person)-(으)ㄹ게요 — 약속·의지 (1인칭)

Use when making a promise to someone

Use this to make a promise or show your commitment directly to the listener. The subject must always be 'I'.

Rules

Verb stem (with batchim) + 을게요
먹다 (먹 has batchim ㄱ) → 먹 + 을게요 → 먹을게요
Verb stem (no batchim) + ㄹ게요
오다 (오 no batchim) → 오 + ㄹ게요 → 올게요
Verb stem (ㄹ drops) + ㄹ게요
만들다 (만들 ends in ㄹ) → 만드 + ㄹ게요 → 만들게요

Examples

제가 할게요.
I'll do it.
하다 → 할게요 (will/intent)
내일 일찍 올게요.
I'll come early tomorrow.
오다 → 올게요 (promise)
제가 먼저 연락할게요.
I'll contact you first.
연락하다 → 연락할게요 (promise)

Suggestion / Guessing Question-(으)ㄹ까요? — 제안·추측 의문

Use when suggesting or asking for opinions

Use to ① suggest doing something together or ② ask for the listener's opinion.

할 거예요 — When asking about someone else's future plans, use '-(으)ㄹ 거예요'. '-(으)ㄹ게요' is your own promise, so it's awkward in a question.
Jungkook: Sujin, your bag looks heavy. Here, give it to me — 제가 ________. (I'll ___.)
도울게요 — The speaker has already said '이리 주세요' (Give it to me) and committed to taking the bag. To express that decided will/promise to the listener, use '-(으)ㄹ게요'.
Jungkook: The weather's great. Shall we ________ together at the park?
산책할까요 — '우리 같이 ~할까요?' is the suggestion form. The question mark is the clue.
